The shopkeeper who was stabbed to death in a robbery at his newsagents in north-west London has been named by police. Ravi Katharkamar, 54, was stabbed in the the chest as he opened Marsh Food and Wine in Pinner, on Sunday morning. Metropolitan Police Detective Chief Inspector Simon Stancombe, of the homicide and major crime command, said: "This was a vicious and unwarranted attack on a completely innocent man. "Ravi's attacker got away with a few pounds worth of coins, but he leaves behind a family utterly devastated and a close-knit community asking who could do such a thing." Mr Katharkamar, who was described by local residents as "friendly and polite", was found collapsed inside the shop. His attacker fled with a shop till which police are still trying to find. London Ambulance Service also attended but Mr Katharkamar was pronounced dead at the scene at 6.46am. He was formally identifed by his next of kin after a post-mortem examination at Northwick Park Mortuary on Monday. Detective Chief Inspector Stancombe said: "Help me catch the man who did this. The attacker fled with a shop till - have you found this discarded or seen someone in possession of a shop till who wouldn't normally have one? Do you know someone trying to use lots of loose change since yesterday morning? "I am also keen to hear from anyone who has information about a black Vauxhall Astra that the attacker used to flee the scene. "This was parked in Cecil Park prior to the murder and was drive off at speed, south down Cecil Park immediately after the attack. If you saw this car, or have seen a black Vauxhall Astra abandoned, please contact my team." Officers remain in the area and are available should residents have concerns or information they wish to pass on. A string of fundraising appeals have been launched to try and help Mr Katharkamar's grieving family. Journalist Caron Kemp, 36, who has lived in Pinner for most of her life, set up a GoFundMe page after seeing the sadness expressed by members of a local Facebook parenting group she administrates. She said: "Losing someone you love is difficult enough, but to do so in such tragic circumstances simply does not bear thinking about. "Pinner is such a vibrant and close-knit community and this violent crime shook us all. So many of us have visited this shop on numerous occasions and knew the owner well as a friendly, warm man who made everyone feel welcome. "We all appreciate that no amount of money can bring him back, but our hope is that it will go some way to illustrating our support at this most difficult time. "We also feel that by coming together we are saying that whatever evil there is in this world, goodness has to prevail." An organiser of another appeal, Kristina Bennett, 31, said the death had "shocked us all". She said: "He was always friendly and polite. "Pinner is a lovely place to live with a great community, and I am hopeful that everyone will pull together to help the family in whatever way they can." The shop's till was stolen when Ravi was murdered, and police believe it may have been dumped somewhere by the killer. They are also appealing for witnesses who saw a black Vauxhall Astra driven away at speed immediately after the stabbing.» more
